Crossover in the Slow Decay of Dynamic Correlations in the Lorentz Model
The long-time behavior of transport coefficients in a model for spatially
heterogeneous media in two and three dimensions is investigated by Molecular
Dynamics simulations. The behavior of the velocity auto-correlation function is
rationalized in terms of a competition of the critical relaxation due to the
underlying percolation transition and the hydrodynamic power-law anomalies. In
two dimensions and in the absence of a diffusive mode, another power law
anomaly due to trapping is found with an exponent -3 instead of -2. Further,
the logarithmic divergence of the Burnett coefficient is corroborated in the
dilute limit; at finite density, however, it is dominated by stronger
divergences.Comment: Full-length paragraph added that exemplifies the relevance for dense

Cluster-resolved dynamic scaling theory and universal corrections for transport on percolating systems
For percolating systems, we propose a universal exponent relation connecting
the leading corrections to scaling of the cluster size distribution with the
dynamic corrections to the asymptotic transport behaviour at criticality. Our
derivation is based on a cluster-resolved scaling theory unifying the scaling
of both the cluster size distribution and the dynamics of a random walker. We
corroborate our theoretical approach by extensive simulations for a site
percolating square lattice and numerically determine both the static and
dynamic correction exponents.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, 1 tabl
Large quantum dots with small oscillator strength
We have measured the oscillator strength and quantum efficiency of excitons
confined in large InGaAs quantum dots by recording the spontaneous emission
decay rate while systematically varying the distance between the quantum dots
and a semiconductor-air interface. The size of the quantum dots is measured by
in-plane transmission electron microscopy and we find average in-plane
diameters of 40 nm. We have calculated the oscillator strength of excitons of
that size and predict a very large oscillator strength due to Coulomb effects.
This is in stark contrast to the measured oscillator strength, which turns out
to be much below the upper limit imposed by the strong confinement model. We
attribute these findings to exciton localization in local potential minima
arising from alloy intermixing inside the quantum dots.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, submitte
Multi-dimensional laser spectroscopy of exciton-polaritons with spatial light modulators
We describe an experimental system that allows one to easily access the
dispersion curve of exciton-polaritons in a microcavity. Our approach is based
on two spatial light modulators (SLM), one for changing the excitation angles
(momenta), and the other for tuning the excitation wavelength. We show that
with this setup, an arbitrary number of states can be excited accurately and
that re-configuration of the excitation scheme can be done at high speed.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Spin multistability of cavity polaritons in a magnetic field
Spin transitions are studied theoretically and experimentally in a resonantly
excited system of cavity polaritons in a magnetic field. Weak pair interactions
in this boson system make possible fast and massive spin flips occurring at
critical amplitudes due to the interplay between amplitude dependent shifts of
eigenstates and the Zeeman splitting. Dominant spin of a condensate can be
toggled forth and back by tuning of the pump intensity only, which opens the
way for ultra-fast spin switchings of polariton condensates on a picosecond
timescale.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Verification of band offsets and electron effective masses in GaAsN/GaAs quantum wells : Spectroscopic experiment versus 10-band k.p modeling
Optical transitions in GaAs1-xNx/GaAs quantum wells (QWs) have been probed by two complementary techniques, modulation spectroscopy in a form of photoreflectance and surface photovoltage spectroscopy. Transition energies in QWs of various widths and N contents have been compared with the results of band structure calculations based on the 10-band k.p Hamiltonian. Due to the observation of higher order transitions in the measured spectra, the band gap discontinuities at the GaAsN/GaAs interface and the electron effective masses could be determined, both treated as semi-free parameters to get the best matching between the theoretical and experimental energies. We have obtained the chemical conduction band offset values of 86% for x = 1.2% and 83% for x = 2.2%, respectively. For these determined band offsets, the electron effective masses equal to about 0.09 m(o) in QWs with 1.2% N and 0.15 m(o) for the case of larger N content of 2.2%.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe
Simulation in Quality Management – An Approach to Improve Inspection Planning
Production is a multi-step process involving many different articles produced in different jobs by various machining stations. Quality inspection has to be integrated in the production sequence in order to ensure the conformance of the products. The interactions between manufacturing processes and inspections are very complex since three aspects (quality, cost, and time) should all be considered at the same time while determining the suitable inspection strategy. Therefore, a simulation approach was introduced to solve this problem. The simulator called QUINTE [the QUINTE simulator has been developed at the University of Dortmund in the course of two research projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour (BMWA: Bundesministerium fĂĽr Wirtschaft und Arbeit), the Arbeitsgemeinschaft industrieller Forschungsvereinigungen (AiF), Cologne/Germany and the Forschungsgemeinschaft Qualität, Frankfurt a.M./Germany] was developed to simulate the machining as well as the inspection. It can be used to investigate and evaluate the inspection strategies in manufacturing processes. The investigation into the application of QUINTE simulator in industry was carried out at two pilot companies. The results show the validity of this simulator. An attempt to run QUINTE in a user-friendly environment, i.e., the commercial simulation software – Arena® is also described in this paper.NOTATION: QUINTE Qualität in der Teilefertigung (Quality in the manufacturing process)Â
Coherence dynamics and quantum-to-classical crossover in an exciton-cavity system in the quantum strong coupling regime
Interaction between light and matter generates optical nonlinearities, which are particularly pronounced in the quantum strong coupling regime. When a single bosonic mode couples to a single fermionic mode, a Jaynes-Cummings (JC) ladder is formed, which we realize here using cavity photons and quantum dot excitons. We measure and model the coherent anharmonic response of this strongly coupled exciton-cavity system at resonance. Injecting two photons into the cavity, we demonstrate a root 2 larger polariton splitting with respect to the vacuum Rabi splitting. This is achieved using coherent nonlinear spectroscopy, specifically four-wave mixing, where the coherence between the ground state and the first (second) rung of the JC ladder can be interrogated for positive (negative) delays. With increasing excitation intensity and thus rising average number of injected photons, we observe spectral signatures of the quantum-to-classical crossover of the strong coupling regime.Peer reviewe
